Pull cord switch change

by Blackie461 » Fri Dec 29, 2023 10:50 am

Hi, I’m changing a ceiling pull cord switch that operates two wall lights as the existing one has disintegrated. There are 3 wires that need connecting. 2 red 1 black. The new switch has the following 3 terminals L1 L2 and L . Can anyone tell me the correct wiring for this fitting please?
I’ve tried red to L1, red to L2 and black to L but that hasn’t worked.
Thanks.

The decision of what colour to use to supply what is up to the person that installed it, so it is NOT possible for anyone on any forum to say put this wire in this terminal, that wire in that terminal and the last wire in the last terminal, it needs to be tested to establish what does what.
HOWEVER I can tell you that your thinking is wrong. Just because you have 3 wires does not mean you have to use 3 terminals.
In this situation you should only use L and L1.

Next time, take a clear, in focus picture BEFORE you disconnect anything.
