Loft insulation - any unwritten rules?

by MulesMarinair » Fri Oct 05, 2007 4:20 pm

Hi all,
First time post here for me.

I'm laying insulation this weekend. 2 layers - 100mm and 170 mm

Ceiling joists are approx 165mm deep.

What would you lay between the joists - the 100mm and leave an air gap between that and the 170mm that will be laid perpindicular to it?
Or would you lay the 170mm between the joists and cross-lay the 100mm

(or does it really matter?)

I'm just concerned about the gap if I lay the 100mm between the joists.

Cheers

M

Part L of the building regs has some good pics on which help to explain stuff like this. Godda leave gaps aroud electrics so they don't get too warm. Look up thermal bridging if you wanna get detailed. Drafts are a biggy as well.

Can o wurms.......he he
