Cupboard ABOVE stairs, wondering about weight restrictions and limitations

by DIYBeginnerJourney » Wed Jan 31, 2024 12:52 pm

I have a floating(?) cupboard, I am not sure this is the right word. But there is a cupboard built above the stairs. I am wondering if there are any weight limitations to this cupboard as I am thinking of putting a washing machine in there.
My question really is who (which trade) would I ask to come in to assess if this is suitable. Specifically for the load bearing aspect/assessment.

Hi diybeginnerjourney,
If the floor of the cupboard is the same as the room floor you might be ok however even if you got a structural surveyor in I doubt you would be given the all clear. If the floor of the cupboard is higher than the room floor level I would advise against fitting a wm/c.
Regards S
