Repurposing shed doors into garden gate

by rosiekay@mac.com » Sat Jun 08, 2024 10:07 pm

We have a spare set of double doors for a shed.
They doors are ledged and braced and hung in a wooden frame.
Our garden side gate is falling to bits so we are wondering about using the shed doors.
Width would work.
My main question is what to do about the current wooden sill. I’d rather not have to walk over this when using the gate.
If we sink it into the ground is there a way to protect it from rotting or better to just cut it off and lose the structural stability?
Thanks

Hi rosiekay,
You will need structural support for the frame sides - either a wall or fence posts, so best to cut off the sill.
