Weatherproofing porch plasterwork

by Homerenov2024 » Thu Sep 05, 2024 1:52 pm

I have a porch/vestibule which has plastered walls and ceiling, it has a door protecting it from the elements.
I’m intending to remove the door to put it back to an open porch.
The plasterwork isn’t very old so I’m wondering if there are any paint on compounds I can use to waterproof the area? Or any other recommendations.

Thanks in advance

Hi homerenov2024,
You do not give details of the construction so it is difficult to advise, generally use a breathable paint eg one for new plaster. Your main issue will be that rain may be driven into the open entrance and this may soak up into the walls. Use an adsorbent mat in the entrance to limit water ingress.
