Draughty front double glazed door

by Wolfatthedoor » Thu Oct 10, 2024 2:57 pm

Hi , I’m looking at getting some advice on what my wife and I can do.
We have a double glazed front door that lets in a lot of wind on the hinge side of the door , to the extent that we gat no peace when it’s windy.
We’ve had a number of experts out to check the door alignment out and adjust the hinges up to the full adjustment, but it still howls in . Some have suggested we replace the rubbers ,so we have . Still a gale . Some have suggested the door is warped, and some have said the door frame is out of alignment so it’s not surprising a gale blows in .
We are asking if anyone else on this forum has any suggestions please ?
Also if we go to the extent of changing the door and frame would we be better with a wooden door and frame or composite door ?

Hi wolfatthedoor.
Try fitting a length of brush nylon self adhesive draught seal on the hinge side of the door. You may have to use one designed for garage doors if the gap is large. Don’t forget to clean the frame where the strip is going to go with a solvent.
Composite doors are probably the best but it all, comes down to correct fitment.
