Fixing cladding to plastered wall.

by stevebar » Sat Nov 23, 2024 1:11 pm

I'm trying to fix primed MDF cladding to two walls in a downstairs cloakroom. One wall is plastered brick, the other is plaster boarded brick. Both walls are painted and have been coated with PVA.
I keyed 2" wide lines through the PVA and paint by dragging a drill bit around then wire brushed and vacuumed the areas.
I then attached the MDF using No More Nails. At first it seemed to make a good job but 2 days later the cladding was coming loose and the adhesive was coming away from the plaster.
Was my preparation faulty or was I using the wrong adhesive?
Any advice/thoughts would be welcome.

Hi stevebar,
The issue may be that because you have removed the sealing layer of PVA and paint the exposed plaster is sucking water out of the nomorenails so there is no adhesion. Try applying the adhesive to the painted wall and see if this sorts the problem.
