Hi,
I'm not a great DIYer by any means and have just removed an old outdoor light by the doorway. Behind this are two cables, each with a red, blank and earth.
I have a new light which has a brown, blue and earth.
I have tried several connections but cannot get this to work when I flick the switch - can anyone give me a hand please?
Once combination made the light come on but I could not turn it off.
Cheers
QUITE POSSIBLE THAT ONE OF THE BLACKS WOULD HAVE BEEN TAGGED RED AND MARKED AS A LIVE SWITCH WIRE.
THIS WOULD GO TO BROWN ON FITTING.
YOUR OTHER BLACK UMARKED WOULD B A NEUTRAL AND GO INTO
THE BLUE WIRE OF THE FITTING.
TWO REMAINING REDS ARE PERMANENT LIVES AND R CONNECTED
TOGETHER IN A BLOCK , TAPED UP.
THE TWO BARE EARTH CABLES , WHICH SHOULD B SLEEVED IN GREEN AND YELLOW SLEEVING. ARE CONNECTED TO THE EARTH WIRE OF FITTING. ( MOST IMPORTANT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ).
BUT THIS WORKS IS OUTDOORS AND BECAUSE A SPEACIAL LOCATION
OF INCREASED SHOCK RISK COMES UNDER PART P AND IS NOT DIY.
I WOULD ADVISE GETTING IN YOUR PART P SPARKY
TO HELP U .
