My hot water cylinder is 20 years old, and the water gets very hot. Is there an easy way of telling whether it needs replacing. ie temperature difference between thermostat and hot water feed pipe on top of the tank

If the water is getting hot then what's the problem ?

getting too hot ? try turning down the cylinder and/or boiler stat.

If it's still getting too hot, then the boiler or cylinder stat may be at fault

Most copper cylinders do not wear out - they go on for ever!

Turn down your cylinder thermostat? Why are you concerned about cylinder getting warm? Or am I not understanding the question?

I have a new boiler which is turned down to minimum, The stat on the hw cylinder is new, because I was suspicious of the old one. The new one is set for 50 degrees, but the hot water seems hoter than that. When you turn down the stat it clicks and the a- valve operates. I just wonder if the cylinder coil could be furred up, hence over heating the water

If the coil was furred up the opposite problem would be experianced i.e. little or no heat. The life expectancy of a DHW indirect cylinder perry525 is around 15 to 20 years. If they do not wear out why are 95% of my companies sales of copper cylinder for the replacement market?
