Hello,

We have recently purchased a flat with an old central heating system.

The radiator in the bathroom has a small amount of rust on the bottom and there is a small leak coming from it. Approx 0.5 litres in 24 hours.

We would like to change all of our radiators in due time, but are considering putting in a towel rail in the bath room.

Until we are in a position to replace the radiators, will a suitable temporary solution to the leaking radiator be to simply turn off the lockshield valve and prevent water entering the radiator, thereby preventing water leaking from the radiator?

Any assistance woudl be gratefully received

Turning off both radiator valves and draining the radiator would stop it from leaking. But you may find the bathroom rather chilly now the cold weather is setting in.

Radiators are quite reasonably priced, if you can get the same size and feel competent enough then you could try fitting it yourself.

IN the first instance I shall turn off both valves and do as you say

Then I shall start to look for an appropriately sized radiator
