Installing Flush Gas/Electric Meter Boxes

by StevieB » Tue Apr 03, 2007 12:29 pm

Can anyone out there give me advice on installing a flush fitting gas meter box into an existing cavity wall, i.e. supporting brickwork over new box and how to get the pipe up the cavity and into the loft space to the boiler in the kitchen (is that allowed even?). I've no problem cutting the brickwork out with a grinder.....I just don't want to be left with a gaping hole in my parents bungalow wall only to find that a surface mounted box is the only solution!!

Buy the box and all the fitting instructions will be in it. The hole you cut must be a perfct fit. You cant use any fixings to secure the box - it is held in place with mastic sealant. You cant run the gas pipe in the cavity, there are a lot of regulations to adhere to when runing gas pipe work. I suggest you get a CORGI guy to do it for you.
