Colour coding of obsolete wiring

by reg gardner » Mon Nov 12, 2007 4:37 pm

I am putting up a new light fitting in my kitchen which requires earthing. The old fitting taken down was a strip light and the three wires within the plastic cable that ran to the light are red, white, and blue. The house was built over 40 years ago and I guess that it is the original cable. Can anyone identify which is the earth. I guess it is the white one, with the red being the live and the blue neutral, but would like to be sure, being hopeless at electrics. No web site that I have looked at mentions white covered wires.

Hi Reg.
reason not found is non-standard use of 2way sw. cable! someone has altered or extended original twin/earth wiring, you probably guess right BUT need test from white to another earth to prove it,
