Underfloor Heating on Real Wood Flooring

by vu1974 » Tue Nov 13, 2007 2:34 pm

Hi All

I am interested in installing the UFH under a REAL wooden floor. From my understanding of Real wood flooring, it will expand & contract as its a natural wood product from summer to winter due to the moisture leaving the wood per season.

If I installed the UFH, would this cause my Real Wood floor to expand & contract as the UFH starts and stops due to the stat?

Thanks in advance

Underfloor heating is not switched off by the stat, rather the stat switches to differing temperatures through the day/night, ie day time 21c night time 15c these small temperature changes should keep the expansion & contraction to a minimum. Underfloor is installed below real wood flooring on a regular basis under floor boards with no detremental effects. Of course your timber will expand and contract regardles of what heating you decide to put in your home because that is the nature of a natural product.
