painting over water stain on ceiling

by peterchappell » Wed Nov 14, 2007 6:54 pm

Removed old woodchip paper from kitchen ceiling only to find an old water stain in one area of the plaster. Have sanded and applied many coats of emulsion, but still the stain shows through!!

How do I get rid of the stain, or is there a product which will cover it?

thanks

You have to apply 1 or 2 coats of oil based gloss (white if painting white) and leave over night before lightly sanding to allow emulsion to key to gloss...that will stop it bleeding through
