we are having a new kitchen installed later this month and the surveyor who came yesterday said that because of new regulations we need a mains bond back to the board for the stopcock now this as far as we know is the only metal pipe in the whole house so do we need this and is it a diy project.
this 'new' reg has been in force for at least 20 years,
it must be 10mm2 geen/yellow cable clamped to house side of stopcock within 300mm.
you can get a clamp and run cable yourself but registered 'part p' sparks must connect it at consumer unit
yes thanks for that so being as the house isnt yet 20 years old it must have been built illegally could we have any come back on the builders who where Wilcon
probably they subbed-out wiring to a contractor who you will never find, and who will swear they did install bond but someone may have removed it!
sorry
thanks again so can i ask you is it a legal requirment and can we be forced to do it before they install kitchen as we dont relish the idea of 10mm earth wire going around the outside house
wiring regs now British Standard (7671) so law, & kitchen fitters can refuse to connect any appliances if not done, also if cert. ever reqd say to sell or rent out, it will fail, also house hold insurers can use it to refuse cover/claim ....
