Hi

dad and myself (dad has been in electrics for 40 years) are rewiring our house. we are replacing the cables and fitting them back where the old ones run

the old wiring was faulty and bodged by the previous owners

we are 1/2 way through and have just thought about what we do now in the terms of getting it legalised

we have already started using part of the new wiring.

what do we do, we are stuck arnt we

does dad know anyone in the trade who might be prepared to look at what u have done and carry on with u doing most physical work and him connecting and testing ,
bearing in mind he will be signing as if he has done all work. as reqd under part p

dad has been working with electrics at work (415v 3 phase) for 40+ years but he not been registered as part p.

we are following all guidelines and installing things safely. We are only doing this as the old wiring was so badly bodged by the previous owners and the old/current older wiring was in such a mess bits kept failing

work on industrial electrics is covered under electricity at work act, hasaw act etc but domestic wiring different, I too was into com/ind for 40+ years & had to register for domestic work, part P etc when laws changed 2+ years ago, it's not hard for a sparky but does take a long time,
don't forget to label any points where old/new colours meet with dual standard labels etc
sorry but dad is breaking the law even though he is well qualified,

having a read around, whats this about having a pir check over it, the prob is its not a complete rewire its just replacing the faulty bits (so far 2 lenghts of cable

also do u need to be part P to change rewireable fuses in a wylex board over to the plug in mcb fuses

your first note said u were rewiring.........
just replaceing parts of circuit due to damage etc not part p so ok,
as not touching wiring at con. unit, I am sure there is no prob changing bs 3036 fuses for bs 3871 plug in mcb's. regards,Sparx

we thought it was gonna be a rewire, so far its a case of relay new cable in same spots as old cable (broken core in the cable)

and replacing plug in rewiriable to plug in mcb

and changing from unswitched sockets to switched sockets

and fitting a couple of earth strands from the earth point on a socket to the metal backing box

we have had to chisel a wall and removing a metal channling to lay a new length, but its gonna be put back

anything here that breaks part p illegalities?
