Toilet Cistern Leakage

by Arthur » Tue Nov 20, 2007 9:16 am

The toilet cistern (with push button type flush) is is leaking ever so slightly into the pan, causing the cistern to top up periodically. (it looses approx 2/3 of water capacity in an 8 hour period).
I have stripped / cleaned etc but it still happens. There is a large (approx 2" dia rubber washer on the end. Would replacing this help or any other suggestions please ?

Its sounds as though your toilet isnt leaking but its overflowing. The type of toliet you mention would normally have a built in over flow, to stop it basically overflowing. So you loo is doing its job. To correct the problem you need to slighty adjust the fill 'fill up' setting. without seeing the inside of your loo its hard to say where this will be. It usually a plastic screw which you can tighten or loosen to adjust the amount of water inside the flush compartment. These screws can sometimes work loose from time to time so its nothing to worry about but I would get it sorted sooner rather than later. Its definatley a simple job, no need to get an expensive plumber in. Hope this helps? cheers
