I want to fit a cat flap in a wooden panel door but the panel is over 250mm from the floor so the cat would have to jump to get through if I follow the advice and make the hole in the panel.

any suggestions?

Hmmm, a small trampoline, cat ladder perhaps? Actually 250mm isn’t that much. I reckon a cat could be trained to jump that. (You could then have endless fun bolting the flap shut every now and then and watching a concussed tiddles stagger around the kitchen)

Ok, sorry. The panel is just the easiest place to make the hole. Provided the door isn’t too thick for the cat flap I can’t see any reason why you couldn’t fit it in the middle of the wood below the panel.

cheers - the only problem now will be the catfalp not being flush where it overhangs the panel so it will be draughty - I assume some weel aimed mastic is the order of the day??

Hi. Yeah, sounds about right. I guess if it was a big gap you could build it out with some wooden strips, but sub-5 mm or so and good qualty frame sealant should do.

I had same worry when fitting catflaps in V. old panelled doors. The cat is fine with the height though. Even though she has to go through 2 of these to reach the garden!

Even manages to return with live mice!!

Maybe only a problem if puss is old or disabled..................

If your cat doesn't appear to want to jump you could always attach some rungs to your door on both sides to give him or her something to climb up. If your cat is anything like mine it'll love anything ladderish!
