Concrete molds for finial (pier top)

by jeremy.coker » Tue Sep 11, 2007 8:27 am

Hi,

I need to make a mold for casting a concrete finial

I've seen the cost of molds and they are expensive.

So thinking of making my own, though it seems long-winded
as it looks likely that it would be a fibreglass mold.

Does anyone have suggestions for making simple concrete molds,
I mean a very simple shape for a finial typically the ball and base job that
you see on end piers.

This may seem a bit basic, but when I needed to do the same type of thing I used a suitable paving slab as the base, then when it came to making the balls, I used some old round glass lamp globes as moulds, and simply smashed them off when the concrete was set. Job done!
