Pressure pump recycling

by havemafr » Sun Dec 02, 2007 10:11 pm

We live out in the country with a well that is quite far from the house (approx. 200 feet) The well ran dry the other day so I had it filled by a local water supply company. I have a single line jet pump and an air bladder cold water tank. The pressure pump will now pump it up to pressure (about 45 psi) and shut off. But as soon as it does, there is a swooshing sound at the pump and the water seems to drain back out to the intake line until the pressure is so low the pump cycles back on (at about 20psi). This takes about 15 seconds each time the pump shuts off. I suspect that when the water ran out in the well, the pumped sucked in some air at the foot valve. There seems to be an air lock in the line and won't allow proper operation of the pump. How do I correct this problem? .... Frank

It sounds like the filters are clogged.

The pump needs bleeding and the filters clean or replaced

It needs a good service.

I have seen a few of these over the years, but most have a system to deal with low or water “outsâ€
