Removal of old adhesive before re-tiling

by debsf1mad » Sat Dec 15, 2007 5:25 pm

Hi

Please can anyone tell me how to get the old tile adhesive off the kitchen wall ready for re-tiling. The tiles came off easily but left a ton of adhesive behind which will not just "chip off" with a chisel (tried that!) Have also tried my wallpaper steamer as I heard this might also help - no joy. This stuff is like Teflon! Do I actually need to remove the old adhesive at all?

This so much depends. Usually, a tiler can tile over adhesive, but then I have had to skim walls before, or spend hours scraping with a sharp chisel.
