A scale rule allows you to measure, or mark, lengths on paper which correspond to actual lengths in the room. For example, you will usually see on one side of a scale rule, 1 : 20 . THis means that every division (the distance between any two of the lines on the rule) is equal to 20 times that on site. Therefore a line on the drawing of 50mm is equal to 1 m. This allows you to represent your room or house etc on a drawing in direct proprtion to the actual job enabling you to see if furniture will fit, measure area and volume and so on.
