Banging Central Heating System

by Tazz » Mon Dec 17, 2007 8:56 pm

We live in a hard water area and have a Myson Apollo boiler. Recently whenever the c/h system is on we are subjected to hours of banging coming from the boiler. The system is about 10 years old but this problem has only started occurring in the past few weeks. We have bled all the radiators but with no relief. Can you please advise on the best course of action to rectify this problem?

1. Get in a CORGI registered Heating specialist?

2. Put in a chemical descaler and flush the system? (If this is the best option can you please advise on the best way in which to do this.)

3. Replace the sump pump? (What sort of cost would I be looking at to replace this?)

Please can you help, your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Probably is a build up of limescale in the heat-ex and pipework, causing the boiler kettle. You could try adding descaler to the system - it depends on how bad it is as to whether it'll work.

The easiest way to add descaler is to use a injection bottle, the nipple is screwed into the radiator vent and then injected using a pressurised bottle.
