Rotten window sill

by lynda » Fri Nov 23, 2007 4:17 pm

:(

We have recently moved into a 125 year old victorian house.

We had a building survey done before buying. One of the points he brought up was to check a couple of soft spots on the bay window sill.

We did last weekend and to our horror after poking into it, found the sill was rotten right through, and just into the the uprights.

The windows are PVC, but in keeping with the property, the previous owner kept the wooden surrounds.

We have cut out part of the sill, but the whole sill will need to come out. Any advice on our next step would be most welcome.

Hi, the bets way would be to take out the double glazed windows and replace the whole sill,as if it is wet rot it may have got into the up rights so doing a temp repair ie:just renewing the front of the sill wouldnt be the best idea.
