No water coming through All aspects of plumbing questions and answers, help, tips and information

Hi we've recently bought a Triton 8.5kw shower. A friend installed it and he has tapped off from another pipe for the water supply, but we have no water coming through. We have a water tank in the airing cupboard and a back boiler behind the fire (not sure if this helps!). The valve is turned on, the stop tap is on fully and there is power to the shower but still no water, any help will be appreciated!

The water to the shower must come from the main and not from anywhere else on the system. If he has plumbed in to the cold feed from the header tank it will not work. If the pipe is 22mm? you can bet this is what has happened.

Of course, it could be a faulty shower unit, or a power supply problem which brings me to the next point.

You do know for shower electrics to be legal, they must be installed by a qualified sparky.

is the pipe he's tee'd into definately live ?

Try undoing a nut to see if there's water there.

Check all valves are turned on.

Can't help much more, is your friend a plumber ? a competent plumber should be able to sort it.

the shower would normally be mains fed water as he tapped into the mains feed or from the tank sounds like he may have tapped into the tank feed or its a blockage if all taps valves are on
get him back and recheck

My hubbys a qualified sparky so thats no prob, his friends not a plumber though, just handy or not as in this case! He has tapped into the pipe putting clean water into the toilet cistern. He was going to tap in under the bath but changed his mind. Can he tap in off another pipe...sorry just a bit confused and frustrated, it's taken longer than we thought! Or will he have to connect somewhere else..if so where's best? Sorry it's so long, just we got six kids need the shower desperatly and are skint after xmas!

Find the 15mm pipe that feeds up through the airing cupboard to the header tanks. Find it or any mains cold by running the cold taps, flushing the loo, running the bath and basin. A cold feed pipe will be STONE (freezing) cold after running everything for 10 or 20 seconds.

Just done that pipe is def right one, do you think it may be a dodgy valve, s a valve meant to click when it's turned?
