Loft insulation installed,rooms colder Information, help, tips and advice on cavity walls, ceilings and lofts etc....

We insulated our upstairs bedrooms as there was no insulation before,but they now feel colder on a cold night snd they are so warm in the summer,nearly uncomfortably so.Why is this?
The bedrooms are right up into the roofspace with dormer windows and we insulated across the top of the ceiling of the bedrooms,down the slope of bedroom sloping ceiling walls and then across the top of the downstairs rooms out towards the outer walls.Any suggestions?

I know this may sound funny, but this is an airflow problem.

You will find that the rooms do feel cold in the winter and hot and stuffy in the summer.

This is the odd thing about houses and insulation is that: you need some drafts in your home.

The reason that the room are feeling cold in the winter is that there no stream of hot air moving around your home, and in summer there no stream of cold air moving around your home.

You could try taking off the door insulation on the doors or installing door vents.

it is because your insulation is locking the heat in during summer - like an oven. Then it is cold in winter because the heat is not making it up there (strange). Walls also account for a lot of heat loss/gain.
