We plan on building a small 12' x 16' cabin close to the lake (~10ft. from the lake). I was hoping to get everyone's opinion on the foundation plan. We plan on inserting 6"x6" treated posts 40" into the ground and cementing in the hole around the post. These posts would spaced every 4' around the outside and in the center of the cabin. The tops of the posts would be leveled 2' above the ground and this is what we'd construct the floor system on, so the cabin is raised 2 ft. above the ground.
The soil here starts to get pretty muddy less than a foot down and gets even wetter the further down you go. Does this sound like a safe foundation for a small cabin in this area? Please let me know any advice/criticism you have on the issue. Thanks for your help!
