There are lamps that produce very little heat. From 1 watt LED to 11 watt cold cathode but they have the same fitting as any other GU10 230 volt fitting and one worries about them being replaced latter by tungsten lamps. The same as to 10W tungsten against 50W I have replaced quite a number of transformers already. Using florescent fitting does prevent wrong bulbs being fitted. Hoods are available and you could fuse to prevent wrong sizes from working but there are many types of lamp available and a visit to a good wholesaler would be well worth while. GU10 cold cathode and LED bulbs are longer that standard bulbs and they will not fit in some units.
