wet wall

Hi all :)
You will have to excuse my lack of using the right words for this post but I have a prob with a wet wall.
The wall is in the bathroom and was tiled 3/4 of the way up. Whilst removing the tiles during refurbishment, we noticed the wall was wet, as in droplets of water wet not damp. On the other side of this wall is a walk in shower and all the plumbing to the shower is behind the tiles we are removing. The house is about 40 years old and the interior walls arn't brick but are sort of wood frames packed with what looks like wood splinters?
Hence the packed part of the wall is falling out where it is wet! Any ideas on remedy? The shower will be disconnected, but can the wall be re-packed? Does it need to dry out or does all the rotten stuff need to be raked out?? Many many thanx 4 any help :)
