Misting of double glazed units Post questions and find answers on glazing, double glazing, upvc glazing, conservatory glazing, fixtures and fittings etc....

:?: I have lived in my present house for 18 months. Over the last 14/15 months a lot of my double glazed units have misted up. eg in one window i have 8 units, 6 have misted and one of them has some water in the bottom. Most of the windows in the house have one or two units that have misted up. My question is; is this normal or is there something else going on. I would hate to pay to have all of these units replaced only for them to go again because there is an underlying problem

THIS IS NOT CONDENSATION ON THE OUTSIDE OR THE INSIDE, IS IT?

IF UNITS ARE MISTING INTERNALLY(INBETWEEN THE TWO GLAZING PANELS), THEN THEIR SEAL HAS FAILED.

THERE ARE COMPANIES WHO CAN DIAGNOSE AND REPAIR SUCH PROBLEMS.

I am aware that the seals have failed> What is worrying me is that they all seem to be going within a matter of months of each other and I am concerned that there may be an underlying problem other than a straight forward failure of the seals. Is this possible?

Sealed units fail due to the fact that they are not pressure equalized, the life span of a sealed unit is 5 - 10 years.
New technology alows the units to be repaired and last 4 times longer than replacing.

IT IS THE DOUBLE GLAZED SEALED UNITS THAT HAVE FAILED.

THE FRAMES THAT THE UNITS SIT IN WILL NO DOUBT REMAIN PERFECTLY SERVICEABLE FOR YEARS TO COME.

ANY IDEA HOW OLD THE WINDOWS ARE?

ANY IDEA OF THE SECTION SIZE?

ANY IDEA OF UNIT THICKNESS (AIR GAP)?

DEPENDING ON THE AGE OF FRAME AND FRAME SECTION SIZE YOU MAY WELL BE ABLE TO GET NEW SEALED UNITS MADE AT A LOCAL WINDOW MANUFACTURERS.

FAILING THAT YOU COULD HAVE THEM REPAIRED BY A SPECIALIST.
