my bathroom is covered in artex which has been put on really badly. :( what is the easiest and cheapest way to get the walls looking better. i tried wallpapering over it with the wall doctor wallpaper but their are loads of air bubbles in it so it still looks rubbish. ideally i would like to just have plastered straight walls and then paint them again. is it possible???

I really like the homestrip products myself although I've not used the textured coatings remover. If it's as good as the paint stripper then it will be good.

An alternative is just to get a spread in and ask him to quote for skimming it. I wouldn't try doing it yourself. It's a real art and takes years of practice.

Artex wil generally come of with a steamer and scraper. You may need to sand down afterwards, and it is messy.

Firstly removing artex with a steamer is effective but watch out for skin burns with the scolding water and the mess is unreal.

Also never ever sand artex if you have any concerns that is is pre 1985 as it will contain ASBESTOS.
