Boiler problem

by jhs3jhs » Thu Feb 14, 2008 1:42 am

I've got a Halstead Quattro boiler.

When switched on I can hear the boiler go on standby.

The problem I have is that the it will only heat up, if i physically tap the bottom of the boiler. I lightly hit the bottom of the console where the dials/lights/nobs are hear a couple of clicks, something whirrs then the burner comes on.

The burner will come on for anything between 30sec and 5mins. The heating and hot water is not consistent.

have been doing this for a couple of days. I have someone coming in to have a look at the boiler.

Anyone know what the problem could be so that I have an idea when the engineer comes.

none whatsoever - from your description of tapping the base of the boiler it sounds like it could be something as simple as a loose electrical connection, but you are just going to have to wait and see what the engineer has to say.

From your description it sounds like you have an Oil Boiler?

If so the mostlikely problem, particularly if you say you give it a tap; is you need to replace either your Water Pump which can seize up, or you need to replace your Oil Pump.
