Hi Guy's, sorry to be a bit thick but a guy has laid my garage floor with the required ammount of hardcore and about 3 - 4 inches of concrete - but he didn't lay a DPC as I had requested.

He is adamant that a DPC is not necessary and states that the concrete will sweat anyway giving off moisture.

I think that this is not strictly true but ... i'm a computer engineer not a builder.

can anyone give me some advice please?

Not sure if it is needed or not, but my builder laid some visqueen sheeting down before the concrete went in.

There are millions of buildings about that do not have damp proof membranes.
Think of garden walls, most don't have a DPC.
Damp doesn't do any harm to a building, until it comes into contact with wood or something else that will rot.
Fix a DPM round your garage door, or whatever and all will be well
