Hi,

I'm considering converting my attic. It would only be worth doing if we removed our cold water storage tank, is this a big job and will it cost a lot?

Removing the cold water tank - compared to coverting a loft wont cost alot.

What does the tank feed ? does it feed the heating system ?

or is it the cold storage for the bathroom taps - if it is could you get rid of the tank altogether and have mains cold water to all taps ?

Removing the tank should be easy enough - and can be done by a capable DIYer - if that's you, it wont cost anything to remove.

I am also looking to remove my cold water tank.
I have an old back boiler servicing my hot water (with immersion HW tank to top up the temp).
Did I read somewhere that I cannot use a cold mains feed with my back boiler?
If I can do I just connect together the incoming cold feed and the outgoing frm the tank?

Mains cold water will fill a tank that will provide the water for the hot water and for the heating water. You cannot connect mains cold water directly to a back boiler.

That's why I asked what it feeds - if it feeds the heating then no it cannot just be removed - unless you change to a combi.

If it is for the cold water supply to the bathroom taps - then yes it could be removed then you could connect mains cold water to all taps.

Thanks for the reply. I believe it feeds the backboiler.
I guess I'll need to leave it for now, until we upgrade to a condesing combi.
