fixing 21kg/47lb cupboard to plasterboard partition wall General problems, solutions, information and advice on fixing to walls of all kinds

Hi, just wondering if anyone can help.

We bought a bathroom cabinet from IKEA and in the process of assembling it realised how heavy it is - 21kg or 47lbs.

The cupboard was to be hung on a plasterboard wall which we believe is just a partition wall between 2 rooms.

Does anyone know if a plasterboard partition wall can take that weight and if so, what fixtures would be best to secure the cupboard.

We have managed to local one of the stud wall beams (??) behind the plaster and one side of the cupboard might be able to fix into that, but the other would be going straight into the plaster board.

fix one side to the centre of the stud, top and bottom of the cabinet. On this side drill small pilot holes through the plaster and then use heavy duty screws or bolts to screw through the pilot holes and then into the stud as far as you can without it pertruding into the room behind!!

for the other side which will have to go solely into plasterboard use redidrives or back anchors - try and use three or four on this side if possible.

It should be fine - I have a wall mounted LCD that is about 15kg using this method and it hasnt budged (yet!)
