please can someone advise me on treating artex prior to skimming . my main concern is to slow the set down with pva . at what strength should it be applied and are there alternative bonding agents for the job.

when plastering over artex i wash down with sugar soap, then apply pva undiluted. this gives a very good slow down to set. leave pva for about 10 - 15 minutes before plastering depending on temp. hope this helps

you can buy sugar soap in any diy store, its not expensive and can save you a whole lot of trouble. sugar soap removes any fatty deposits from the artex ceiling like cooking or tobacco stain from smoke. let it dry out before coating with pva. all it is is a cleaning agent,
