Hot Glue Gun

by bronkone7 » Fri Mar 07, 2008 8:13 pm

Hi
My brother-in-law has stuck cable to socket to his wall with a hot glue gun,to enable it to be plastered over.
Is this wise,i thought it would melt the cable.

Not a method I'd use or recommend. the glue melts at 120 degrees which is enough to damage the cable. However the glue would cool fairly rapidly so in truth the damage to the cable is probably negligible.

Depends what cable and what glue. Cable rated 70 and 90 degs for twin and earth which did he use? Some cable even higher.

It isn't wise because the cable will be completely unprotected and it's hazardous!

The wall should be chased out and the cable at least 50mm deep and placed in a conduit which can be plastic at that depth. Less is possible with a metal conduit.

Cheers
