Hi all,my ist post,hope some one can help me,my problem is that i have an old iron letter plate whereby the spring on the shutterplate/bar has broken :( how do i go about renewing the spring? any suggestions welcome.

Its extremely unlikely that you will find a suitable spring without trawling the architecural salvage yards so a good search is called for. It may also be possible to take the letter flap out and visit an engineering shop on a local trading estate where they may be able to make one up for you.
