Mirror as a fireplace back panel?

by Arbies » Mon Mar 24, 2008 9:43 am

Hi there. I am in the process of making a unique fireplace. I want to use mirror as a back panel but am not sure if this is safe.

The house was built in 1987 so no chimney, basically it is just a plasterboard wall.

I have bought a flueless gas stove that will sit on the floor but to keep the light in I really want a reflective surface, hence mirror.

Will this be suitable?

Thanks for reading!

Doesnt sound too bad an idea as long as it doesn't get too hot (try not to fit the mirror too close). Also i would recommend you use a 6mm thick mirror. It might be worth getting an off cut of mirror and just plonk behind and see if it it is going to work without it cracking, but i think it should be fine.
