old floor boards with gaps shud i hardboard over?

by joey99y » Fri Mar 28, 2008 12:33 am

Hi, i am living in a flat that has old floor boards with gaps and it is really knackered, carpet is a definate no and i was thinkng of getting some hardboard, nail gunning it over the old boards and then placing some wooden flooring over the top?

1) do you think this is ok?

2) what hardboard should i use and shud i nail or nail gun the boards on, what nails?

i am really poor at diy and would be most grateful for any advice, thanks

joe

all depends on what flooring you are putting on it solid would doesnt need it as you can secret nail to the floorboards below laminate or engineered boards i would recommend 6mm ply screwed at 6inch centres
