can anyone help? i've had to remove the main telephone socket so as to replace skirting board, thats all done and on replacing the socket 2 wires have come adrift, from witch connectors?
the main cable is ok as socket is in 2 sections, but the extension cable within the socket there are 2 sets of 3 connectors, one side theres the 2 wires for broadband thats working no problem but on 2nd set of 3 this where wires come adrift with many wires to choose from, but i'm aware i only need 2 of them.
the other end of cable broadband as i say works but NOT the phone, but the phone works on the main box.
hope that makes sence.
BT want to charge me £170 + tax to put right, i cant afford anything like that

Pins 1 and 6 are unused.
pins 2 and 5 are both phone and broad band
Either pin 3 or 4 is for ring think it is pin 3 but not sure. If left disconnected then phones will work but will not ring.
Depending on make of phone if 2 and 5 are reversed some fail to work others don't seem to mind.
Broad band does not seem to mind if wrong way around.
Wire colours do not seem to follow standard but it is like for like.
So if extension socket has orange white on pin 2 the original socket will also have orange white on pin 2.

I sorted the telephone wiring in this house when I moved in due the the upstairs phone sockets not ringing.

You didn't mention which colours are loose. They are colour-coded and should work opposite each other (ie orange-white is opposite white-orange).

I have mine on the following connections:

White/Orange 4 - 3 Orange/White
White/Blue 5 - 2 Blue/White
White/Green 6 - 1 Green/White

If you're unsure check the cabling in any other socket you have (if possible).
