Cost of barn conversion

by dreamingofbarns » Wed Apr 02, 2008 10:40 pm

Hi; I'm living in dreamland as a superb barn has just come on the market in our ideal location. I think it's just going to be too expensive for us to convert - does anyone have any idea of a cost per square foot to convert?
Thanks for your help

Hi, A barn conversion is a hard thing to price. With a new build you usuarly start with an empty piece of land and know all the materials and labour you need. With a barn you have a shell, maybe a roof none of which may comply with building regulations and have to be rebuilt. this can cost more than a new build.....Also the quality of the fixtures and fittings comes into account.. Its swings & roundabouts, but if you based your costings on around £80 a sq.ft. you wont be far out. Good luck thedoctor3.
