Query on fixing invisible shelves to wall General problems, solutions, information and advice on fixing to walls of all kinds

Just thought I'd double check about fixing some Ikea invisible shelves.

The wall is kind of internal but it's the one separating our house with next door. I've tapped around the area where I want them fixing and there are solid and hollow sounds. I presume the plasterboard is fixed directly to the separating wall with dabs of cement of some sort?

I'm unsure of the exact construction of the wall, so trying to decide on the best fixings. I was going to try a combination of those metal self-drive things (driva_something?) and standard wall plugs with dry wall screws.

Does this sound sensible?

i'd imagine that if its a wall that you share with your neighbour that it would be a solid wall - that hollow sound that you get when you tap the wall is most likely to be blown plaster (ie lifted away from the wall with an air gap behind) the only sure way to find out is to drill a test hole - be mindful of cables and pipes!
