Ventilation brick in lounge

by JCPARK » Mon Apr 07, 2008 11:23 am

We have a ventilation brick in our lounge and it blows in constantly freezing cold air. The gas fire is in the middle of the lounge wall and this is at the far end. is there anyway i can stop it blowing cold air in? On the outside is a curved "hood" facing downwards but it doesnt stop the wind.
Many thanks.

Not alot you can do apart from re-postioning the vent.
What type of fire is it ? just a fire or back boiler too ?

Just asking because sometimes the old vent are left in off back boilers and they're not always required (leave in though until you're 100% sure it is needed)

Hi, It is a gas fire but the boiler is in another room. It really does get a draft thorugh though even with the cover on so it seems rather bizarre!

If you let me know the make and model of the fire i will let you know what ventilation if any is required.

If the fire heat input is 7kw or under then no ventilation is required - unless specified by the manufacturer instructions.

If it is a DFE like a basket type fire or similar then 100cm2 ventilation is required.

Check the manufacturers instructions or contact manufacturer

Hope this helps
