Outside tap

by Spanner » Sun Apr 06, 2008 9:14 pm

I installed an outside tap about a year ago. One of those that self taps into an existing pipe (copper pipe). The tap has worked ok but doesn't any longer, not even the slightest drip. What could the problem be?

Undo the nut to the bottom of the tap - if there's water there then the problem is with the tap itself.

The tap may just need cleaning out as sometimes bits of debri get stuck in the tap body and non-return valve.

Just under the tap handle there'll be a large nut, undo it and remove the spindle from the tap - check rubber washer is still in one piece.

Also with the self tapping taps, they only puncture a small hol in to the copper pipe - which again can become blocked, best to use a 15mm tee and 15mm pip to feed the tap.
