gas fire wasn't lighting when gas at required point and button pressed.on stripping down found the spark to be okay but possibly to far away from gas.have moved eloectrode to across top of holes which presume gas comes through and fire now lights but just wondering if electrode should be above the holes or slightly to the side as now when fire on the elctrode is in the flame and getting hot.concerned it might get damaged by flame should it be moved slightly to the side of the holes thus still lighting the gas but not in the direct flame? :?

When was your gas fire last serviced by a CORGI registered installer ?
Should be serviced at least every 12 months.

It depends on whether it is just a spark electrode or part of a vitiation sensing device.

As I've said - get it serviced and all parts and operation will be checked and tested.
