Can anyone advise me? I have just purchased a detached bungalow with an integral garage that I want to convert to a dining/study room. The walls are the same as the rest of the bungalow ie 11" cavity wall with a side window.
My question is firstly will I be allowed to do my own conversion? which needs a new wall to replace the garage door to match up with the rest of the bungalow (11" cavity") with a UPVC window (I will probably get a window Co. in for this) and if so how would I raise the floor which is approx 6" lower than the rest of the house which has floating floors to all rooms? and secondly, the ceiling is of a cocrete/asbestos boarding. My surveyor told me the boards didn't need a specialist to remove it but the difficulty lies in disposing of it after. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of them safely? I will be going via Planning & planning control but I need to try to budget as much as I can as I've just retired and on a limited income and i won't bother if it's too expensive.
