Hi - What is this pipe??? Drainage and wastage systems and plumbing help, advice and answers

All drainage from our house ends up in a single sewer, irrespective of source.

There is what appears to be a soil pipe (shown in solid black below) outside my kitchen, which has no connections above ground at all.

I can not see that it is serving any purpose (other than getting in the way of my new conservatory!), so can it be capped / removed?

Or am I missing something obvious here?

Does this pipe go from the ground to above gutter or just about 4ft high ?

It could be a vent for the sewer, not every house has one normally just one or two in a street, normally about 4ft tall with a square opening in the front.

These cannot be be capped as they are vital for the escape of gases from the drainage system. They are property of the water board and permission will be required for re-positioning.
