I am installing a new shower. The existing shower is built on a raised base and I want to replace with a very low profile tray at floor level. Unfortunately I don't think the slope on the shower waste pipe will be steep enough to take the waste water.

Do I have to make a new (lower) connection in to the soil pipe for the shower waste? If so, how do I do this?

I'm assuming you have a plastic soil pipe and not cast iron..


Simple job, get a 'strap-on boss' and some plastic pipe glue (Solvent weld cement for the purists) from the plumbers merchants.....

Then all you need is a drill and a cheap set of hole cutters, cut the size of hole you need in the soil pipe...smear some glue around the hole and on the inside of the boss, clip the boss onto the soil pipe and depending on the make, clip or screw the retaining straps together.....

(All of that will become abundantly clear as soon as you see the strap on boss)

The bosses are made to fit normal 4" (100mm) soil pipes, but you will need to specify what size take-off pipe it is for........
