Hi all can you help please,
I have just 1st fixed a pc room in my loft & put in one of these light/fan units. I ran the cable from the beneath hallway light fitting, took the brown from the existing coupled red, blue from the coupled black & earth from earth.
The fan unit had only a L N E plastic connector to connect to so I wired like for like & also like for like down to the switch.
When switch is turned on it now pops the rcd .
Have I wired the light/fan unit wrongly or is the switch faulty?
Any help much apprieciated Thanks,
If i can follow u , you have a brown at fan which comes from
coupled red ( AT HALLWAY FITTING ) , I am assuming this is your
live connection. u then have a blue at fan which comes from
coupled black ( AT HALLWAY FITTING ) , WHICH i assume is your
neutral.
OK i am assuming that when u mean like for like to the switch
have you dropped a live and neutral across it ??????????
if u have that s a dead short and could b operating rcd.
of course i am assuming the earth is in the right place !
the two core and earth down to the switch should be connected
to permanent live , brown of two core to switch ( at fan with brown from hall light in A SEPARATE terminal block ) and i am assuming blue core of
two core to switch ( tagged brown ) which becomes a switch wire and
connects into live terminal of fan .
your fan should then switch on and off from the switch.
I suggest u get an electrician to check your work before
you energise circuit .
